No matter what, there will always be people that eventually leave your mobile lists, e-mail lists, Facebook pages, etc.
But here are a few tips to help you retain more subscribers:
1. Offer an immediate discount for signing up
This works well for mobile AND e-mail subscribers.
Not only does the discount incentivize more people to sign up, you’re also giving something of value right away.
Plus, when someone first signs up, their sense of trust is usually at a very high level.
Instead of waiting to run an offer an risking that you’ll be forgotten, give new subscribers something while they’re actively engaged…as long as that offer is relevant and delivers meaningful value.
2. Don’t always sell directly through SMS.
You may decide you want to, but it never hurts to also share valuable updates and information with your subscribers.
Keep them in the loop of what’s going on, share things you’ve discovered that apply to their lives, ask for feedback, or link to new content you’ve published.
Our mobile devices are a very personal space, so it makes sense to look for opportunities to create some interaction with subscribers.
3. Stay consistent.
Again, this really applies to all marketing channels.
But given that mobile devices are very personal, it’s especially important to keep your messages consistent.
Between other companies and many different apps, there are a lot of other potential SMS and push notifications coming through…so you don’t want to risk being forgotten (or worse: being flagged as spam).
